Young Dolph was born on August 11, 1985 in Chicago, Illinois, United States. He was brought to Memphis, Tennessee when he got 2 years old.
He has four sibling, two sisters and two brothers. In his song “preach” he has even mentioned that he was not raised by her mother by the lines “Mama! She was in the streets so guess who raised me??” He has said he has seen lot in his life on the streets of Tennessee where his people were working a lot and not getting any respect due to racism in the country.
He says he never trusts anyone he only trusts pistol and slugs.

This incident has motivated him to express his feelings through music and his first rap was an emotional relief for him at his desperate times.

It was early 2017, when Dolph became the target of gunfire in Charlotte, North Carolina. According to the local police there were dozen rounds of bullets which were fired and many weapons were also included. By the next day it was all over in newspapers that it was Young Dolph who was the main target of the shooting. It was speculated that this shooting was aroused due to the rivalry between Dolph and rapper Yo Gottie. Dolph used this incident to promote his second studio album “BULLETPROOF”.
