Career
Formerly, he was Vanguard’s chief investment officer, managing the company’s internally managed stock, bond, and securities industry portfolios furthermore as its investment analysis and methodology. Buckley united with Vanguard as an assistant to company founder John C. Bogle in 1991, and he assisted the firm’s founder in researching his first book. After his MBA, Buckley returned to work at Vanguard in 1996. His first project was an analysis tracking Vanguard’s main competitor, which rendered a viewpoint on its advantage as a mutual-funds company.
He has worked in several senior leadership positions, such as chief information officer from 2001 to 2006 and head of the Retail Investor Group from 2006 to 2012. He was appointed as a Chief Investment Officer when Gus Sauter in 2013 was retired.
Besides Vanguard, he served as chairman of the board of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia from 2011 to 2017. Tim presently serves as a trustee and vice chair of The Shipley School.
